Summit County resident speaks out about recent Xcel Energy power outages
The recent Xcel Energy power outages in Summit County were a major inconvenience for many residents. I was one of those affected, and I am writing to express my frustration.
The outages began on Tuesday, March 8, and lasted for several hours. During that time, I was unable to use my computer, my phone, or my stove. I also had to throw out all of the food in my refrigerator.
Xcel Energy has said that the outages were caused by a combination of factors, including high winds and heavy snow. However, I believe that the company could have done more to prevent these outages from happening.
For example, Xcel could have invested in more tree trimming and vegetation management. This would have helped to prevent trees from falling on power lines during high winds.
Xcel should also have done a better job of communicating with customers during the outages. I was not notified of the outages until after they had already started. As a result, I was not able to make any plans for how I would cope without power.
I am urging Xcel Energy to take steps to prevent future outages from happening. The company needs to invest in more tree trimming and vegetation management.
The company also needs to do a better job of communicating with customers during outages. These steps would help to ensure that Summit County residents do not have to experience another major power outage.
Sincerely,
